About Lien Foundation

Laurence Lien

Started by eminent Asian business leader, Dr Lien Ying Chow, The Lien Foundation aims to lead, innovate, empower and network for the benefit of society. The Foundation pioneers new ground in philanthropy by investing in innovative solutions, convening strategic partnerships and catalyzing action on social and environmental challenges. Its key focus areas are education, eldercare and the environment, with special interests in hospice care, water and sanitation.

The Foundation's developmental NGO, Lien Aid, has made inroads into China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia. It has earned the favour, political will and cooperation of local governments and communities with its innovative ways to provide sustainable solutions for the region’s urgent water and sanitation needs.

Linking leadership across nations, the Foundation has established the Lien Ying Chow Fellowship, in the same fashion as the Eisenhower Fellowships, to promote the professional & personal advancement of emerging and established leaders from China and Singapore

The Lien Foundation is headquartered in Singapore, from where it pursues an approach of radical philanthropy across the region. The Foundation has several centres under its auspices to pursue dedicated causes: The Lien Foundation Centre for Social Innovation, Lien Institute for the Environment and the Lien Chinese Enterprise Research Centre.

In addition, the Foundation is actively engaged in capacity building for the non-profit sector, especially in the areas of innovative IT deployment, research, training and advocacy work. It has conceived and championed inaugural initiatives such as a campaign on end-of-life issues and the creation of a common integrated IT platform for healthcare nonprofits.
